This page is under construction and will be available
in later this year, highlighting studies about the correlation
between educational achievement (reflected in income)
and internet use and about the 'wired classroom'.
Australian states/territories and overseas governments
have boasted about their success in taking schools onto
the net but a close examination of figures suggests that
- connectivity
in many schools, particularly in much of the US, has
not escaped outside the library or the administrator's
office - many classrooms remain to be wired
- there
is uncertainty about day to day use of the net where
there is a connection to the classroom (eg there's only
a single 'wired' machine, which is often not online)
- there
is greater disagreement about the scope for developing
net-based curricula and - more effectively - leveraging
online resources to complement rather than replace traditional
teaching methods.
